The election is over, it is time to heal. So many of us have been churning in our own worlds, social media has become so political and we need to give ourselves the chance to open the escape hatch and transport ourselves into another world.

For many years I attended weekly evening writing workshops, where the leader would provide a verbal prompt and engage in something called a “Free Write”. She would read a passage from a book or poem, to spark to ignite the mind of the other writers for twenty minutes and then everyone shares what they've written.

This will be similar -- but instead, I will give visual prompts for riffing. While you paint, you can say in your mind, Nothing matters, This is just practice, There are no rules, I’m just painting. Because painting dries in layers, we will start many at once and so that you're always busy.

This is something I've always wanted to try. But because oil paint drys so slowly (part of its glory), and that is my primary medium, I've never done it before. But I use water-based paints all the time for sketching and thinking and the same principles of layering color apply. So let's do it together. I'm bringing my artists friends. We'll screw around. It is much needed.

I heard of a book store in New York where people put their phones in pouches as they enter and read together. Painters are used to spending so much time alone, but if we can paint together, dream together, once in a while, I know the world will become a better place. I hope to see you!
