Well, I dare say, that was wonderful! Last Wednesday, we (newbies/artist pros/writers/plumbers/astronauts, etc) gathered with a water-based medium of our choice to help us chill out after the election. I provided visual prompts and we painted for ninety minutes while listening to music. It was relaxing, elevating, and dreamy. Thank you, to those who came, for joining me in the experiment. I know I have an unconventional approach to water-based media. I do not use it to create water droplets on wine glasses, to replicate photography or work en plein air. Rather, I use them the same way I use oil paint, layering translucent and opaque colors as if they were oil and working on many at once. I swivel from dark over light to light over dark and think in three dimensions, rendering objects in the background first and the foreground last. I build from visuals or collages I make or am inspired by. I used to call them studies but they stand on their own. It was so fun to do it with friends and other artists (and non artists). Last week, as I was preparing for the live painting session experiment, I said to my husband, Honey, what if this works?! What if, on a whim, I could summon friends and strangers to just paint together for no particular reason. It definitely worked. I hope, in addition to sending out carefully crafted newsletters which take me longer to write than to make a painting, that I can also, from time to time, just casually make a call to action and say βhey you want to paint together?β and then voila, there we find ourselves. Next Live Paint:
β Info for future Live sessions will live here: kimberlybrooks.com/live and here were the visual prompts we used from last week. Bring a friend! I know I still owe you a proper newsletter. Everything is coming. Multiple long-term projects are concluding at once and I'm excited to share them with you as soon as I cross some finish lines. Happy Holidays, β Kimberly β β β β β β β β |
